Motivation

Blockwave was inspired by the desire to create a decentralized social media platform that would give content creators and influencers a direct channel to monetize their work while maintaining control over their content. We later expanded the platform's functionality to include event ticketing.

Functionality

Blockwave allows users to share a variety of content, including text, images, and even transfer cryptocurrency directly to their accounts, opening up new possibilities for influencers and content creators. The platform also features an event ticketing page that makes it easy to create, sell, and buy tickets using ERC-1155 NFTs for secure and easy access to events. Additionally, users can mint and set their unique digital art as their profile picture using our ERC-721 NFT smart contract.

Behind the scenes, Blockwave is powered by the latest in decentralized technology and supports Mantle Wadsley Testnet, Shardeum Sphinx Betanet, and Polygon Mumbai with separate smart contracts on each chain. We've integrated with IPFS for file storage and utilize Sanity as a database to store user data such as likes, posts, comments, and wallet addresses. Our frontend is built using Next.js, while the decentralized content distribution is powered by the cutting-edge Spheron SDK.

Achievements

We are proud to have created a decentralized event ticketing smart contract that allows for the minting of ERC-1155 NFTs to provide access to events, enabling the buying and selling of event tickets. The implementation of the NFT smart contract for users to mint NFTs for their profile pictures was also a significant accomplishment. Additionally, utilizing the Sanity database for storing user data and IPFS hash for posts proved to be an effective solution for maintaining user privacy and security. Features like likes and comments using the wallet address for verification with SIWE and the whole authentication system also taught us a lot.

Lessons Learned

Building Blockwave provided the team with valuable experience working with blockchain technology, smart contracts, and decentralized content distribution models. The potential for blockchain technology to disrupt traditional social media platforms became more evident, emphasizing the need for innovative solutions that enable content creators to control their content and monetize their work.

Future Plans

Blockwave currently supports Mantlet Testnet, Shardeum Sphinx & Polygon Mumbai. We plan to provide new features and benefits to users and expand the platform's reach.
