Inspiration
With the world's advancing technology, we can find technology almost all around us, so sometimes it can be hard to stay focused while doing work, especially since most of us are enrolled in online courses and are always on our computers. Because we fall in the same boat, we decided to take some initiative and create and Chrome extension that people can use on their computers to block unnecessary and distracting websites that disturb their focus while working.
What it does
When you add a website URL's into the extension's blocklist and set the timer, those websites will be "blocked". The user will be redirected if they try and open a website that is present on the blocklist and if the timer is still running in the background.
How we built it
Our Chrome extension is mainly coded in JavaScript, as well as HTML & CSS
Challenges we ran into
A challenge we ran into was creating a timer for the amount of the time the blocklist would be blocked
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we could take our initial idea and actually create it
What we learned
New concepts that we learned while doing this hackathon was how to make Chrome extensions with JSON files, as well a learning how time works in JS.
What's next for BlockR
Freshen up the visuals & UI, possibly add an option to "turn off" certain items in the blocklist so that some items are blocked while some are not. Another big thing we plan to work on next is to make the points system & shop system both function and work properly.
