Inspiration
The Food Supply Chain Management process is one of the most significant processes. It has various stages like harvesting crops, refining, and processing crops, and transporting and delivering them to wholesale and retail markets from where customers buy the products. The foods are perishable products and they tend to decay due to various factors like moisture, temperature, exposure to chemicals, and bacteria. Due to its perishable nature and slow supply chain process, it may lead to spoilage of food.
It intrigued us to develop a tracking system to overcome these difficulties.
What does our project do?
The live tracking of goods can be done by combining some of the key technologies like IoT and Blockchain. This will result in enormous growth in Supply Chain Management (SCM). Utilizing Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), IoT, Blockchain, and Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN), we can obtain real-time data on the Food Supply Chain process.
How we built it
We aim to provide solutions to these problems by developing a highly secured and tamper-proof monitoring system based on IoT and Blockchain to gather and store real-time data of the perishable food products and monitor the SCM throughout the whole process, including transportation through automation.
What we learned
We learned that SCM is not a process that can be totally controlled at each and every step, but if regulated properly, it improves business and trade drastically.
Also, Blockchain is not something that is confined to Crypto, but if integrated with prominent domains, will start a new era in technology.
What's next for "Blockchain-based Tracking and Tracing system of Agri-foods".
Apart from agro-products, dairy products, meat, and other SCMs can also be integrated with Blockchain according to their standards.
