Inspiration

In the year 2016 I saw a news that Indian farmers are forced to sell their products(potato) at Rs. 100 per quintal(100 Kilos) and that's when om finding about the local price of potato which came to be Rs. 30 for 1 Kg .That's when I began questioning the whole supply chain keeping in mind that no amount of economics can explain this Rs. 29 gap between the selling and cost price in times when 16000 farmers are committing suicides in India each year, tonnes of food getting wasted and people dying of hunger. The inspiration for our project emerged from direct observations and interactions with the farming community. One striking incident was witnessing farmers on the roadside, selling their harvest directly to passing vehicles. This grassroots-level selling wasn't born out of mere convenience, but out of necessity. In-depth conversations with these farmers revealed a grim reality: the compensation they received through traditional channels was a mere fraction of the actual market price. The extensive chain of middlemen not only diluted the profits but also introduced inefficiencies and delays in payments.

These stories, combined with the realization of how decentralized technology like blockchain could bring about transparency and fairness, sparked the genesis of our project. We envisioned a platform that could bypass layers of intermediaries, enabling farmers to directly connect with consumers. This direct link not only ensures better prices for farmers but also fresher and more authentic produce for consumers.

What it does

The project aims to increase the net profit of our farmers thus increasing the amount of money reaching the farmer by reducing intermediaries, reduicng wastage and providing a bigger window for selling.

How we built it

The project is build upon blockchain technology and aims to create smart contracts for each farmer and consumer for transactions that happen so that the payment reaches without any failure.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge is of data collection from each household and farmers and reaching the farmers especially those who are in debts.

What we learned

We learned about the present scenario and the attention it needs from the youth. We also learned about the problems and issues faced by farmers not only in India but globally , especially in the United States.

What's next for Blockchain Based Logistics and Supply Chain in Agriculture

To implement the idea in next few years on ground and connect with the right people .
