Inspiration
My inspiration comes from my own nostalgia and "borrowed" nostalgia from my sibling's hand me downs. I remember loving to play retro 90s games when they were done with them and getting lost in the limited graphics, story, and game play. Limited, in my opinion, does not mean worse, or bad. It's about using what you have to make the most interesting, fun, and (somewhat) memorable game possible. It's what inspired me to start learning to program when I was young, it's what drove me towards tech, and it's what inspires me now. It's personally why I love Devvit as a platform. Even when I have to wrestle with it.
What it does
The game switches tiles in a multi dimensional array then checks if all the tiles are matching at the end.
How I built it
My game under the hood is just a simple webpage that uses event listeners to update the game state, JS to run complex animations with more precise timings, and css to handle the passive interactions. The goal was to build it as quickly as possible with as little as possible.
Challenges we ran into
Time constraints were the primary challenge I faced. As I approached the conclusion of my initial project, I realized that my evolving preferences had led me to become dissatisfied with the direction it was taking. Consequently, I made the difficult decision to abandon the original concept and start anew. In hindsight, I wish I had more time to refine and perfect my work, but such are the realities of project development.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of.
This project represents the quickest turnaround I've ever achieved for a website/game. From start to finish, it took me approximately four days.
What I learned
Loved learning more about the web views, definitely have more ideas when this is finished.
What's next for Block Out
If there's enough interest I will grow and support it as I've said in my feed back over the last 6 months. Devvit is a great budding platform. I definitely want to stick around and contribute more.
