Inspiration

My friends and I always seem to be bored when we are in our hometowns. Group plans and expeditions rarely transform from text to action because of our lack of local activities.

What it does

This app will allow you to add blips to your map and view the blips that other people have posted as well. This will let you find more and more things around you to do. Examples include skate spots, basketball courts, backdrops for photos, hikes, restaurants, arcades and much more.

How we built it

We built it with a expo frontend with a firebase backed

Challenges we ran into

We had trouble getting all of blips to appear on the map, getting the sign in feature to work through firebase, and working with xcode to have an ios simulator. This was also our first time creating a mobile app alongside two of our member's first time writing in javascript/react.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We created a basic iteration of our idea that works. We pushed through all of our challenges and fixed them. The final product is something we are proud to present.

What we learned

How to create a mobile app with the expo framework as well as product design for our presentation, and what good UI looks and feels like it.

What's next for Blip

Improving the UI adding more complex features like toggling different maps, adding a "unique" system where users who make the first blip of a location are credited and everyone else has simply "visited" the spot, friends' list, messaging, stats for blips like # of visits or rating. Every time we think of the future of Blip it just extends and keeps growing.
