Inspiration

We were discussing about our experiences and what we could possibly do. One of us had a brief experience with Arduino and the LEDs led to the idea of using them to accompany a song. We wanted to learn how to use an Arduino on our own and see how far we could go in a 12 hour hackathon.

What it does

LEDs light up to the tune of Jingle Bells in different shapes.

How we built it

We used an Arduino Uno, a breadboard, wires, a speaker and LEDs.

Challenges we ran into

We worked through the code to separate the tune so that each output lit specific LEDs. We had to figure out which tune went with each note. We had to teach ourselves how to use Arduino properly. We had to figure out how to brighten the LEDs the more we added. The speaker had become distorted with the addition of more LEDs too.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We figured out how the code in Arduino worked and made the program to how we wanted it to work. We had originally wanted to make the LEDs light up successfully and then took it further in forming a picture with the LEDs when it lit up with the tune. We're proud that we wired the LEDs correctly to form different pictures for each tune.

What we learned

We learned how to use the Arduino and to wire a breadboard properly with new electronics we had never really had a chance to use practically or on our own.

What's next for Blinkle Bells

We could make the LED setup larger and really make an improvement in what we could show.
