Inspiration
After playing Garten of Banban, we realized that despite how flawed the game is, the general idea has a lot of potential if executed well.
What it does
Bingo's Barnhouse is a game featuring puzzles, chase sequences, photo taking, scares, fully voice-acted cutscenes and dialogue, and more! You play the role of Avery, a journalist investigating the abandoned studio of an old TV show, Blingo's Barnhouse, with his partner Joey. Upon entering the building, Joey is grabbed by some kind of monster. Now it's up to Avery to save his friend and discover the many horrors behind the Barnhouse.
How we built it
The game was built using Unreal Engine and its blueprint system. We utilized GitHub for version control. Models were made in Blender and Maya. Generic Animations and Rigging were obtained using Mixamo. Cutscene animation was motion-captured using Radical.
Challenges we ran into
Unreal's Blueprints definitely provided a learning curve as it was an entirely brand new way of coding, but we eventually, with time and practice, got the hang of it. Importing Animations and having to retarget them all proved some difficulty initially. The photo mechanic was hard to implement at first. I’m
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The photo and lore mechanic, the chase sequence, full voice acting, and animated cutscenes.
What we learned
This was our first project in unreal, so almost all of this project was a learning experience, but we have come out of it with a large of amount of knowledge into almost every aspect of the engine.
What's next for Blingo's Barnhouse
More puzzles, more scares, and more story! We hope to include every idea that couldn't quite make it into this build!
