Inspiration - This app was inspired after meticulously thinking of a way to use technology to affect positive change in a real world problem. We wanted to help a cause that actually exist, hence the creation of BlindSight, an app gear at assisting the visually impaired to move around
How it works - The apps will accept a voice input from the user (the blind), where the data is relayed to a back-end user. The user requests entails a destination where, where the back-end user then plots a path from the user's current location to their destination and via a series of vibrations, it will tell the user to either turn right or left and indicated to them if the are off course.
Challenges I ran into - Integrating the code in the android studio platform was a bit challenging at first, however the real problem was creating a back end user than can handle the users request and providing the necessary processing.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of - I am proud of what my team mates and I have accomplished in such a limited time frame. The concept is superb and its application I believe will take a foothold in how technology can help the disabled community; affecting positive change. The apps is functional and has a simplistic UI, which I personally enjoyed creating
What I learned - I have learned how to code using android studios. I have learned how to become a better programmer and a better business person. This hackathan has proved to be quite intriguing and allows me to express my creativity.
What's next for BlindSight - The next approach for BlindSight is to continue to develop and improve on its features. We are aiming to make it on the international market; helping the blind throughout the world and dawning a new wave of tech that is aimed at helping the lives of persons in the disabled community
