Project Details
Inspiration:
Audiobooks but interactive - creating an immersive audio experience where players actively participate in solving mysteries rather than passively listening to a story.
What it does
Entertainment through accessible gaming - provides a almost-fully audio-driven murder mystery experience where players interrogate suspects, gather evidence, and solve crimes using only sound cues.
How we built it
Ren'Py - leveraged this visual novel engine's audio capabilities to create a sound-first gaming experience.
Challenges we ran into
Sound design complexity - creating distinct audio cues for different characters, locations, and evidence
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Audio immersion - crafted an atmosphere where sound tells the complete story Detective mechanics - implemented logical deduction systems that feel authentic
What we learned
Audio cues can be more powerful than visuals for creating atmosphere.
What's next for Blind Date With Death
This is only a demo showcasing the core concept. This initial project uses TTS (text-to-speech) for voices, but I plan to enhance the full version with: Make all the dialogues have speech Actual voice acting - actors to bring each character to life with distinct personalities Enhanced sound design - ambient audio, footsteps, and environmental sounds for full immersion More audio descriptions - detailed narration of environments, character movements, visual clues and ui interface More options on how to solve the case - multiple investigation paths, alternative evidence gathering methods, and different deductive approaches leading to various solutions
