Inspiration

I wanted to make a MR bullet hell game like Ikaruga or Xortex 26xx.

What it does

A fun full bullet hell MR game, with variable difficulty and additional challenge modes. There are 32 hand crafted stages, 4 epic bosses, 27 distinct enemies with varying behaviors.

How we built it

Unity and the Meta libraries were used. MR is used along with variable tinting/shading per customer preference. There also is a full VR mode that has space backgrounds.

Challenges we ran into

Hand tracking and seated gameplay caused significant issues for gameplay and balancing. Handtracking didn't give full 6dof tracking like you have with controllers but after iterating on the problem I believe we gave the user a good solution. It generally works best to hold your arm further out from the body but you can then aim with high accuracy. Seated gameplay is challenging given the game type (bullet hell). But with the assist mode and several lives per level I believe the game works without the need for roomspace movement.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I'm glad to have full leaderboards, handtracked and controller gameplay. I'm proud that we have significant gameplay depth including adjustable difficulties and additional challenge modes.

What we learned

Hand tracked gameplay works for 6dof translation but not 6dof rotation, it's important to keep that in mind and allow the user the ability to fully play your game without 6dof rotation.
