INSPIRATION

Farmers facing issue in cultivate the banana leaves manually by using single stick and a knife. This process damages the leaves fall on ground which reduce the cost and the main problem the cutted leaf may even cause severe damages in upper body and also leads to eye loss. we planned both manually and electrically operated cutting device which cuts the leaf and holds the leaf not to get fall down. we built this currently in fusion 360 software as a design.

WHAT I LEARNED

In this project, I learned to identify key issues in traditional banana leaf harvesting—such as leaf damage, safety risks, and quality loss—and addressed them by designing a simple, non-electrical tool. This solution focuses on preserving leaf quality and improving worker safety, all while being eco-friendly and accessible to farmers without electricity. I gained insights into user-centered design, sustainable innovation, and the importance of practical, ergonomic solutions in agricultural tools.

HOW I BUILT THIS PROJECT

I designed the banana leaf harvesting tool in Autodesk Fusion 360, using its 3D modeling and simulation features to refine the clamping and cutting mechanisms for efficiency and ergonomics. Fusion 360 helped you visualize, adjust, and perfect the tool’s design before prototyping.

CHALLENGES I FACED

In the design stage, I faced challenges in creating a tool that could cut and hold the leaf without electricity. Simulating real-world functionality, ensuring lightweight and ergonomic design, selecting durable materials, and making iterative adjustments in Fusion 360 all required careful planning and refinement to finalize an effective design.

FUTURE IMPROVEMENTS

I should build a physical prototype to test how well it works and use lighter, stronger materials for better durability. Adding adjustable parts will help it handle different leaf sizes, and making it more comfortable with cushioned grips and adjustable handles will improve usability. Designing it with interchangeable parts will make maintenance easier, and testing it in different conditions will ensure it works reliably. These changes will enhance the tool's efficiency and strength for farming use.
