BlazeBot was created to save time and support first responders by providing instant access to trusted training materials and operational guidelines. By leveraging AI to process data from federal, county, and local sources, we ensure firefighters have accurate, up-to-date information when they need it most—helping them stay prepared and make informed decisions in critical moments.

What it does

BlazeBot is an AI-powered assistant designed to enhance firefighter training and streamline administrative tasks. It provides real-time answers on fire department protocols based on reliable, vetted sources. By making training materials more accessible and automating administrative processes, BlazeBot reduces the burden on firefighters, allowing them to focus on responding to emergencies rather than searching for information or managing paperwork. It also helps teams quickly generate response plans, facilitate training simulations, and improve coordination, ensuring faster, more efficient emergency response.

How we built it

We developed BlazeBot by integrating trusted information from federal, county, and local sources, ensuring first responders have reliable, vetted data at their fingertips. By structuring this information into an AI-powered platform, we provide instant access to mission-critical knowledge. Firefighters and emergency personnel played a key role in shaping the tool to ensure it meets real-world operational needs.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was ensuring consistency across teams. Different fire departments and emergency units have varying protocols, so we focused on aligning BlazeBot’s capabilities with common operational needs while still allowing customization for local requirements. Another challenge was ensuring the system provided credible, up-to-date training resources, rather than relying on generic AI-generated responses.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud of BlazeBot’s ability to significantly reduce the administrative workload for firefighters, helping them spend less time on documentation and more time on training and emergency response. Additionally, BlazeBot is a highly customizable tool, built on trusted datasets, ensuring accuracy and reliability for fire departments of all sizes.

What we learned

Listening to first responders is key. Their insights helped us refine BlazeBot to provide practical, real-world solutions that go beyond just answering questions—BlazeBot actively improves access to training and automates time-consuming tasks. Effective emergency response isn’t just about having information—it’s about having the right, trusted information at the right moment.

What’s next for BlazeBot

We plan to expand BlazeBot’s reach by partnering with more fire departments, especially those without established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), making trusted response protocols more accessible to smaller departments with fewer resources. We also want to ensure that fire departments can purchase BlazeBot through funding opportunities like the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program and similar initiatives, making it more accessible to agencies that need it most. Additionally, we’re exploring new integrations to further reduce administrative burdens, giving firefighters more time to focus on what matters most.
