Inspiration
As University students, we know firsthand how important it is to stay informed and connected to the campus community. Regarding weather, we needed a personalized and student-focused alert approach.
How we built it
We wrote each component of the project first. They applied the style properties to it. Then added the backend API portion, and then we merged all components together
Challenges we ran into
A major challenge was styling the HTML elements, and getting the API key to work properly
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we integrated API development into our program, and
made a user application with it
What we learned
Making a web application using APIs taught us several important things. Firstly, we learned the importance of choosing the right APIs for our project, based on their functionality, reliability, and ease of integration. We also learned how to properly authenticate and authorize API requests, in order to ensure secure communication between our application and the API provider. Additionally, we learned how to parse and handle API responses, including error handling and data validation. We also gained a deeper understanding of RESTful API design principles, and how to make efficient and optimized API requests to reduce latency and improve user experience. Finally, we learned the importance of testing and debugging our application with real-time API data, in order to identify and fix any issues or bugs that arise. Overall, making a web application using APIs provided us with valuable knowledge and skills in API integration and development
What's next for Blaze Alert
Now we will take our application and expand it to all schools. This will be achieved by grabbing all location Info from schools and allowing users to choose what school they want to run this application on. That way this application is not limited to just UIC students, but to the whole college community
