Hack So'Cal 2020

I and my teammates were inspired to do this via another friend of ours who competed in this Hackathon along with us. We didn't go in with the goal of winning, but rather acquainting ourselves with the program as well as to just generally have fun with our friends. Over the course of the project, we learned a great deal, including the necessity for good time management, but ironically, the need for occasional breaks. In terms of code, I personally learned more about how to do 2d platformer movement, which is also a plus. Also, one of group members spent most of the time making sprites, which allowed him to become a better designer as a whole.

We wanted to do specifically something Paul Blart related because we recently watched the first movie for laughs, and wanted to make something as a "tribute" of sorts to it. We started off somewhat organized, but as the hours progressed, and we became more and more tired, and our productivity and output declined. We realized then that coding for an extended period of time isn't just about the knowledge of code, but also, the endurance required to maintain it. We started with a fairly ambitious idea at the start, definitely possible with the right team, but as we were new to this, it became apparent that it was out of reach. Over time, we gradually scaled back on our concepts, and eventually settled for the project that we ended with. Many things about this were difficult; the time needed, the coordination, as well as some of the coding aspects. These included the procedural generation, spriting and animating, and using git with unity. Overall though, myself and my teammates had a very good time, and learning new things are always fun.
