Inspiration

Our group consists of avid VR gamers and there's one game that's not available to play on the Meta Quest 2. That game is TicTacToe. We saw a gap in the market and felt that we had to be the one's to fill it.

What it does

Once the game starts, you are immediately spawned inside Ethan Blanton's office where you can explore the history of computer's and pretend that you are Ethan Blanton. There is a whiteboard in his office where we placed the interactive TicTacToe game that allows you to finally play TicTacToe in virtual reality.

How we built it

We used Unity to create the game in VR. Newer models of iPhone's come standard with a Lidar sensor that we utilized to physically scan Ethan's office and add into our game. As for the TicTacToe objects, we used blender to create our own 3d models for both the "x" and the "o" that we made usable pieces for our game as well as creating our own game board.

Challenges we ran into

This was our first time using Unity, Blender, Polycam(app used to scan Ethan's office), and making anything in virtual reality, so there was a big learning curve that we had to tackle. Everything we made was learned during the hackathon, so there was many problems along the way, but they were because of our lack of experience with these programs.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were impressed with ourselves in a lot of aspects. We were proud of being able to scan an entire room and being able to add it to our game. We were also proud of using blender to 3d model our own objects. Even just making it so the VR game actually worked in VR was a huge accomplishment for us, as none of our group has ever done something similar to this.

What we learned

Our skills in both Unity and Blender are much more advanced than they were in the beginning of the hackathon. We also had to learn a little bit of C# for the scripting of the game.

What's next for Blanton's TicTacToe: VR

Ideally, we would have liked to add more games than just TicTacToe. Some other ideas we wanted to add into Ethan's office were games such as Connect 4 and/or Battleship. In the future, the scan for Ethan's room could have been better where there are certain details that are blurred or smeared, but overall it gets the idea across conceptually.
