A One Stop Website for having Fun and learning all about Sharks🦈!!!

Inspiration

Blahajax was inspired by the famous IKEA toy BLAHAJ . Our team, wanted to showcase, how enjoyable the toy is. And, along with that, we wanted to create a place, where Shark enthusiasts could learn more about their favorite aquatic animal🦈. We wanted, the visitors of our website to enjoy their learning process. So, we also added various interesting features to our website.

What it does

So Blahajax, is actually a place for the Shark aficionados, to learn more about their favorite aquatic animal : The Shark !! It has a complete page filled with various Shark species details, starting from their Image, their own English name, Latin Name , and some small interesting details about each shark species. And to make things fun, we have also created a page, which consists of the famous game : Hang-Man. But this time, all the words in the game are related to Sharks🦈 !!

How we built it

We built the entire Website over a Shark-fested weekend !! Our team, first thought about various project ideas. But, we finally settled on Blahajax. Then, we streamlined the entire working process, by distributing the workload.

I decided on using React, Tailwind, CSS, JavaScript & Git to make the project We started with the Website Interface, and used images from Unsplash to make the home page. And next, We started working on Sharks Facts page, for this we used our own API to create various info about each shark species. Finally, we built the Hang-Man game, using React and Modern CSS.

At last, we deployed our website to Netlify !!

Challenges we ran into

We were unable to find a proper API related to sharks, which consisted all the required things, that we wanted to display on our website. So, we had to create our own API. Also, none of our teammates have ever coded a game React. So, we also had to learn from scratch, on how to make Hang-Man game.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are very proud of the fact, that our Website is Up and Live !!! But, other than that, we are proud and happy by the fact that, whatever problems and challenges that we faced, we overcame that as a team !! And, It makes us more proud, because we as teammates never knew each other, before this weekend !!

What we learned

We learnt a lot during this time period, such as how to build a REST-API from scratch . Some of us, also learnt various new libraries, such as the React library, and tailwind CSS, to style the React components. And most importantly, we learnt all this while trying to make the Hang-Man game !! Also, along with that we learnt a lot on how to divide tasks among teammates, to work efficiently, and more productively !!

What's next for Blahajax

For now, we are going to stop working at Blahajax. We have incorporated, all the things that we wanted to add to the website. And, It actually came out to be much better than, what we expected to build from the start !! 💖🦈
