Inspiration

  • Games have always been the lynchpin to our group, as well as our lives. Developing them has become a means of expression for us. As such, we are speaking for our finned friends in our game.

What it does

  • 'Blåhaj The Braveheart' is a 2D platformer adventure game where you play as 'Blåhaj' the famous IKEA shark. As winter sets in, you begin your journey towards the south. With increasing environmental degradation, scary predators, and even humans, the challenge has never been more demanding. You will have to give it your all. Are you ready?

How we built it

  • The game was programming in The Godot Game Engine ver. 3.2.1. The animated sprites were made in Aseprite.

Challenges we ran into

  • We are relatively new to the game developing world, a lot of time was eaten up in drawing assets and rewriting unstable code.
  • It was our first time making a platformer style game, and hence we faced an entirely different adversity.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Our enemies are generated pseudo-randomly and procedurally.
  • Our in-game world is rendered in sections for optimisation.

What we learned

  • How to program a platformer style video game in Godot.
  • How to draw vector art.

What's next for BLÅHAJ THE BRAVEHEART

  • We plan to work on the game for a few more months and publish it latest by July 2021 on itch.io. We see true potential in both this game and the message it sends.
