Inspiration
60 Seconds Rush started as a simple idea: what if a math quiz could feel as thrilling as a shooter? We noticed that Horizon Worlds attracts a diverse community—some come for social exploration, others for quick challenges. We wanted to create something that fits perfectly into that rhythm: a 60-second “brain warm-up” that’s both energizing and satisfying. The core concept came from the logic of an eye-test—fast recognition, quick focus, and immediate feedback—but re-imagined through the lens of arcade fun.
What it does
In 60 Seconds Rush, players grab a blaster and face a rapid-fire stream of arithmetic questions. They shoot the correct answer panel, break it with a burst of light, and earn a speed boost that propels them further down the track. Each correct hit accelerates the pace, while wrong shots strip away momentum. We designed the difficulty curve based on real educational curricula, gradually increasing problem complexity to keep both casual and skilled players engaged. The experience can be enjoyed solo or cooperatively, encouraging players to help each other go faster within the 60-second window.
How we built it (feat. Gen AI)
Our process combined traditional scripting with generative tools: we leveraged Gen AI in the Worlds Desktop Editor to create textures, assist with certain 3D model designs, and generate sound effects—helping us prototype assets quickly while maintaining a cohesive style. For development, we used Cursor IDE to write and debug our TypeScript scripts, which control gameplay logic, scoring, and visual effects. This blend of creative AI assistance and hands-on scripting let us move from concept to playable prototype efficiently, keeping the experience both polished and performance-optimized.
What we learned & What's next for 60 Seconds Rush
Building a fast, responsive math-action game on Horizon pushed us to refine performance, feedback timing, and UI readability—especially for mobile users. We discovered that players loved retrying “just one more round,” proving that even a short, focused challenge can spark powerful engagement. Next, we plan to expand the game with adaptive difficulty, themed environments, and daily leaderboards that make every minute count.
