Inspiration

I am a Virginia Tech student freshman, and I am planning on moving but I really don't know much about the off campus housing situation, and there are likely other freshmen who are just as confused as me. So I designed this project to help fellow hokies looking to move off campus and find their perfect apartment and roommate.

What it does

Basically the program has a user fill out a housing preference and uses that information to match a hokie with a preferred apartment. You can also talk in the global chat for the apartment and see your compatibility score with other users who are looking for housing in the same place.

How we built it

I am not very code savvy so I just used cursor and the GitHub ai helper to program the whole project.

Challenges we ran into

I had to change the logic in deciding how compatible a person is with an apartment or roommate to make sure it was giving accurate results.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am pretty proud of the project, because its really my first programming project or challenge that I have done so just seeing it on the screen, even though I didn't code it, is just really cool.

What we learned

I learned how to create files using VSCode and some basics of html, css, and javascript, also I learned how to manage my time better when programing which is pretty useful.

What's next for Blacksburg off-campus housing helper

I am probably not going to do anything with it unless I figure out of to use API's then I might add custom preferences and then an AI can compare them to the reviews of the apartments.
