Thank you very much for holding HopHacks.

We were inspired by the idea of making a game. We thought a card game would be fun!

What it does

The user can play Blackjack or "21" in the Java console against a computer. The program displays the player's current hand and the dealer's face up card. At the end, the player displays scores and who won.

How we built it

We used repl.it to collaborate in the coding process. We wrote pseudocode. Then, we translated some of that pseudocode into actual Java code. We tweaked the code as we went along, testing and fixing issues.

Challenges we ran into

One challenge we ran into was getting the "Ace" card to switch values between 1 and 11 as needed. Another challenge we ran into was debugging in general.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We've had successful runs of the game, and the presentation is professional.

What we learned

We learned how to write methods, use multiple files in a Java program, and organize a large project. We also learned how to work together as a team and persevere.

What's next for Blackjack a.k.a. "21" in Java

Next steps are possibly to incorporate a GUI into the game or to make the dealer a smarter 'computer opponent'.
