🌌 Black Hole Store
🚀 Inspiration
My fascination with the cosmos—black holes, distant galaxies, and the unknown—sparked this project. As a mobile VR enthusiast, I aimed to craft an immersive universe blending space exploration with engaging gameplay. Inspired by epic storytelling and gaming passion, I envisioned a galaxy where players shape their legacy through creativity, competition, and community. This narrative gameplay experience is available on both mobile and VR within Horizon Worlds.
🌠 What It Does
Black Hole Store is a mobile VR simulation in Horizon Worlds, designed for on-the-go players to:
- 👽 Lead factions and conquer procedurally generated planets with a tap
- 🌍 Build cosmic worlds from a neon-lit black hole hub using intuitive mobile controls
- 🚗 Race custom vehicles like Solar Chargers and Void Rippers with swipe navigation (in development)
- 🐾 Evolve Cosmo-Critters for battle arenas and fashion shows in Battle World and Kitty World (in development)
- 📺 Tune into a dystopian news network broadcasting feats and shaping the story in real-time
- 📸 Join guild activities, snap selfies at mobile-friendly selfie spots, and participate in social events
This mobile-optimized experience combines creativity, narrative depth, and social immersion, all guided by an in-game voice.
🛠️ How I Built It
Using Meta Horizon Worlds’ desktop editor and TypeScript, I developed:
- A neon-lit black hole hub optimized for mobile screens
- Customizable planets and factions with a mobile-first design
- Interactive vehicle and critter mechanics using touch controls
- A news broadcast system that dynamically reacts to player actions
Mobile Optimization Techniques:
- Followed Horizon Worlds’ performance tutorials for smooth mobile experience
- Used Focused Interaction APIs for precise tap/swipe mechanics
- Built a Custom UI system for planet building and critter evolution
- Synchronized the narrative news network across mobile and VR platforms
🧩 Challenges I Faced
- Learning TypeScript from scratch for mobile gameplay scripting
- Balancing hub visual vibrancy with mobile performance
- Syncing real-time narrative updates across mobile and VR
- Designing responsive selfie-spots and multiplayer guild features for touch screens
🏆 Accomplishments
- Launched a fully mobile-compatible VR world in Horizon Worlds
- Created immersive planet exploration optimized for phones
- Built a reactive news broadcast system across platforms
- Established game laws and foundational mechanics for mobile VR
- Designed a framework for social systems, including guilds and selfie-spots (in progress)
📚 What I Learned
- TypeScript and scripting in Meta’s VR ecosystem
- Best practices for mobile VR optimization and responsive UI
- How to drive engagement via narrative-driven systems
