Inspiration
Currently, container shipping is a very manual industry. Wouldn't it be great to automate as much as possible, with a physical device? Everyone benefits from increased efficiency.
What it does
Attach an IoT device to a container to track movement, impacts and shocks, door opening and closings, and other events. Store these events in a viewable database and plot them on a map. This allows end-customers to understand better what is happening to their shipment in transit, which will help them resolve disputes.
How we built it
We have a super-secure, highly redundant back-end database. A mobile app uses on-board sensors to collect data and the mobile phone network to post data to the back. And there is a web application front-end to view the data.
Challenges we ran into
Limitations of off-the-shelf mobile smart-devices. Battery power considerations.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Detecting bumps and door events live with a prototype device.
