Inspiration

Black Beauties was inspired by the powerful, creative, and nurturing women who raised me. I created this exhibit as a virtual love letter to Black womanhood — to celebrate our style, our culture, and our beauty in every shade and shape.

What it does

Black Beauties is a virtual exhibit that creates a safe, intentional space to celebrate Black beauty and identity. While it’s not a game or action-based world, it invites players to slow down, explore, reflect, and appreciate. Each doll is a piece of visual storytelling, and the entire space is designed to spark joy, representation, and cultural pride. It may be simple in function — but its purpose is deep. It holds space for presence, not just play.

How we built it

Each doll was built piece by piece, using basic shapes from the asset library. Adding makeup was a whole journey in itself — eyeliner is no joke in Horizon Worlds! I also crafted every accessory using what was available in the library, from earrings to lamps, making it work with what I had.

Challenges we ran into

Had to start over 3 times due to glitching and doll missing eyes & hair. Handle Meta Horizon glitching & deleting issues.

I had to learn how to:

Keep players from falling off the world Handle Meta Horizon glitching & deleting issues. Create smooth teleportation points Use scripting to make my sunglasses interactive And most of all, I had to learn patience.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Not giving up and completing this project even through the hardships. This world taught me how to turn limitations into creativity. Every doll reflects not just aesthetics, but intention. They were made to reflect real beauty — the kind we don’t always see in digital spaces.

What we learned

Always bet on me! Never give up and step out of my comfort zone. I learned patience most of all.

What's next for Black Beauties Doll Exhibit

Black Beauties Doll Exhibit will grow. I would love to expand the exhibit- adding more themed dolls for all women!
