Inspiration

Every startup business owner I know carries the same invisible weight.

They're running a marketing co., a cafe, a salon, a retail shop, working 12-hour days, and somewhere between managing staff, handling customers, and restocking inventory, they expect to also make smart, data-driven business decisions.

Should I run a promotion this weekend? Why was tuesday so slow? Is a competitor stealing my customers?

They don't have a data team. They don't have a business analyst. They have a gut feeling and not enough hours in the day. Meanwhile, large enterprises spend millions on business intelligence platforms that answer exactly these questions automatically.

That gap – between the Fortune 500 and the corner shop – is what inspired BizPulse.

*Every small business deserves a big-business brain.

What it does

BizPulse is a real-time AI business advisor that thinks for you – automatically. before you even ask.

How we built it

BizPulse was built entirely using MeDo — Baidu's AI-powered no-code platform — through a series of structured, detailed natural language prompts. Zero lines of code were written manually.

The build followed a deliberate multi-turn conversation strategy:

Phase 1 — Foundation A single 600-word prompt describing the complete three-panel layout, data sources, color system, API integrations, and user experience in precise detail. MeDo generated a fully functional full-stack application in under two minutes.

Phase 2 — Intelligence Layer Subsequent prompts wired the AI advisor to synthesize all four data sources simultaneously before generating recommendations — with confidence levels and source attribution on every response.

Phase 3 — Automation Engine Eight background automation features added through conversation: morning briefs, smart alerts, opportunity timers, proactive nudges, campaign generation, weekly planning, achievement badges, and shareable insight cards.

Phase 4 — Premium UI A liquid glass visual redesign — backdrop-filter blur, ambient gradient glows, frosted glass panels, and smooth stagger animations — transforming the dashboard into a premium product experience.

Phase 5 — Production Polish Demo mode, onboarding flow, board report generation, voice input, multi-language support, collaboration mode, and a complete QA pass.

Tech stack generated by MeDo:

  • Frontend: React 19 + TypeScript + Vite + TailwindCSS
  • Backend: Node.js with MeDo's managed infrastructure
  • Database: MeDo managed database (business profiles, question history, opportunity scores, saved campaigns)
  • APIs: OpenWeatherMap, NewsAPI, Foursquare Places, Groq (llama-3.3-70b-versatile)
  • Deployment: MeDo one-click cloud deployment

The multi-turn conversation log — 25+ versions, each iteration refining a specific layer — is the most honest demonstration of what MeDo can do in the hands of someone who thinks carefully about what they want to build.

Challenges we ran into

1. The Groq model deprecation Mid-build, the AI advisor stopped responding with a 400 error. The llama3-70b-8192 The model had been decommissioned. Fixed by updating to llama-3.3-70b-versatile with llama-3.1-8b-instant as an automatic fallback — all through a single MeDo prompt.

2. The first prompt is everything The first version built from a vague prompt was functional but generic. The real breakthrough came from spending two hours not building — mapping the full user experience on paper before writing a single prompt. The quality of MeDo's output is directly proportional to the clarity of your thinking.

3. Replacing Yelp with a truly free alternative The original plan used Yelp Fusion API for competitor data, but Yelp's free tier was discontinued. Switched to Foursquare Places API — free up to 100,000 calls/month, no credit card required — without losing any functionality.

4. Browser notification permissions The Opportunity Timer's reminder feature required navigating the complexity of the Web Notifications API permission model across browsers. Required careful handling of all three permission states (granted, default, denied) with user-friendly guidance for each case.

5. Keeping the UI feeling live without burning API calls Building a dashboard that feels genuinely real-time without hammering free-tier API limits required thoughtful caching, staggered refresh intervals, and a demo mode that uses rich realistic data without any API calls at all.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Built a production-grade product in 9 days with zero code
  • The Weekly Opportunity Heatmap — a 7×24 hour grid showing peak business windows across the entire week — is a feature we've never seen in any SME tool
  • The Board Report Generator produces a presentation-ready executive slide in one click — turning a dashboard into a boardroom deliverable
  • Multi-language support (5 languages) makes BizPulse genuinely global — usable by small business owners who don't speak English
  • The liquid glass UI — built entirely through natural language description — demonstrates that MeDo can produce visually sophisticated, premium interfaces without a single line of CSS written by hand
  • Total external API cost: $0 — the entire stack runs on free tiers

What we learned

MeDo rewards product thinking, not prompting tricks. The biggest insight was that MeDo is not a shortcut around thinking — it's an amplifier of clear thinking. Vague prompts produce vague apps. Precise, user-centered, detailed prompts produce something you'd actually ship.

The gap between idea and product has collapsed. When iteration takes minutes instead of months, you try things you'd never risk with traditional development. BizPulse has 12+ features because we could afford to explore every "what if" moment. That changes what's possible for solo builders and small teams forever.

No-code doesn't mean no-decisions. Every product decision — what to show, what to hide, how to handle empty states, what the first-time experience feels like — was still entirely a human judgment call. MeDo handles execution. Vision, empathy, and product thinking remain irreplaceable.

What's next for BizPulse - The AI Business Advisor That Never Sleeps

BizPulse is not a hackathon prototype. It's the foundation of a real product.

Short term:

  • Native mobile app (iOS + Android) so business owners get nudges on their phone
  • WhatsApp and SMS integration for daily digest delivery without opening the app
  • POS system integrations (Square, Shopify) to incorporate actual sales data into the Health Score

Medium term:

  • Industry-specific modules — restaurants get table turn predictions, retailers get inventory signals, salons get appointment gap analysis
  • A "BizPulse Network" — anonymised, aggregated benchmarking so owners can see how their Health Score compares to similar businesses in their city

Long term:

  • Expand to emerging markets where small businesses have the least access to business intelligence tools and the most to gain from them

The vision is simple: every small business owner on the planet, regardless of language, budget, or technical skill, deserves access to the same quality of business intelligence that large enterprises take for granted.

MeDo made it possible to build the first version in 9 days. The next version will reach millions.
