Inspiration

One of the largest problems facing small and local businesses all around our communities is reaching customers. Recently, local businesses and entrepreneurs have been suppressed by large, established companies, where they have been struggling to form meaningful partnerships or access affordable marketing opportunities.

What it does

BizConnect provides a platform where businesses can connect with each other and their customers with a lower investment they will be able to expand their operations and outreach. As a bonus, customers have an outlet to find new shops and services that they may have never found.

How we built it

We built BizConnect because we wanted to help businesses connect and grow together in a way that hasn’t been done before. First, we researched what businesses needed the most, like ways to advertise or find partnerships. Then, my team of coders created an easy-to-use website that lets businesses share services and collaborate. We used dummy businesses as this is a prototype design.

Challenges we ran into

This is the first time we, as a team, participated in a hackathon or any coding event for that reason. As a result, we were unsure about how to approach a project. One big challenge we faced while implementing the modals for our connections page was troubleshooting why none of our efforts seemed to work at first. To overcome this, we collaborated as a team, brainstorming and breaking down the problem into smaller pieces. Each team member brought unique insights, and together we identified that the issue lay in the structure of our code. Through this process, we not only fixed the issue but also gained a deeper understanding of how modals function, strengthening our skills as developers and improving our teamwork in the process.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

One major accomplishment that we're proud of is navigating through the challenges of our very first hackathon It was difficult trying to find a platform to collaborate. However, we pushed through, eventually finding a place to collab and dedicated one to two hours a day, working on this project. I am really proud of my team's collaboration and overall efforts for doing so well in our first hackathon.

What we learned

As a team of high school students developing BizConnect, we gained invaluable experience in both technical and interpersonal skills. Through this project, we refined our programming abilities, deepened our understanding of web development, and learned how to troubleshoot and solve challenges . Equally important, we learned how to collaborate more effectively—working as a team, sharing ideas, and dividing tasks to achieve a common goal. This journey taught us the power of communication, adaptability, and teamwork, skills that will help us in our future endeavors. Overall, it was a nice experience that combined growth with personal development.

What's next for BizConnect

Currently, we are working on publishing the website with the help of other teachers and experts in the field (as we're Grade 10 students). In the future, we will find more people as passionate as we are to turn this idea into reality. As we expand our team, we will ensure to reach a wider audience with our services and make sure all businesses around the world are interconnected.
