Inspiration
How can someone not feel inspired by technology like Ipfs! Even if you are not a developer, you must still feel quite fascinated by it. You really have to be pretty lucky to witness the genesis of technologies like Ipfs and Ethereum (which have the potential to really transform and make an irreversible impact on the world) in your lifetime. I could not have missed the opportunity to hack around with them. Not to mention, these technologies are still in their nascent stage and any work or contribution can literally have a butterfly effect in the future.
What it does
With the advent of Web3 as people call it, and with techs such as Ipfs, filecoin etc., the internet as we know it will probably go through a paradigm shift in a fundamental way. And I think 'Content-Addressability' and 'Immutability' gonna play a big part in this shift. And the trend I reckon, would be to move toward more open and more trustless systems. And this nature of the open-web would require new and innovative ways of how things are done on the internet. And that's where an app like bitverse comes in!
In an open internet you wouldn't want an artist to just sit there while the world devours their art for free.
We gotta have a system that can acknowledge, appreciate and reward creators on the open web. "Bitverse creates a system to correct the asymmetry between value created and value captured by the artists and creators on the open-web."
Quite simply put it's a trustless program (a DAO) on the internet that records all the likes/dislikes a decentralized Content gets and rewards the creator autonomously and according to the protocol defined in the smart contract.
Building it
Building it came with its own difficulties and with more than few learning curves. But the vision was enthralling and project could definitely impact the lives of millions of independent creators of the open-web. It required knowledge of Ipfs and its APIs. The development, testing and deployment of smart contract. A Web front-end built using next.js framework.
Accomplishments
The pace with which this whole decentralized space is evolving is tremendous and being a fast learner filled with curiosity can really take you a long way. Not only can I build projects for myself but could also help other folks who find themselves lost in this web3 space. So, this is something am really happy about myself.
What we learned
There's definitely an infinite number of things and infinite amount of information to know and learn in this space. Everyday there's something new to learn and it can be quite overwhelming at times to keep up and not to get FOMOed.
What's next for Bitverse
I think am gonna use this concept of rewarding creators in decentralized space and curate it in a much better way that would also be easier for lay people to understand - For example, there could be an exclusive decentralized site for memes (bitverse.memes), where people could just post memes and get rewarded for the popularity it could draw. And the same concept can be extended to nfts (bitverse.nfts), blogs (bitverse.blogs), wallpapers (bitverse.wallpapers) etc., and so on. This would also allow me to implement additional specialized features for each category.
Just like subreddits, people could make subcategories of their choice on the open-web. Since it could be done for every single piece of content on the internet, I could build dedicated sites for each category possible and creators can literally make a living out of it if their content is good enough.
