Inspiration
I kept seeing the same problem everywhere.
People learn how to code, finish courses, build small projects… then get rejected because they don’t have “real experience”.
So they get stuck:
no experience → no job → no experience
That didn’t make sense to me.
If someone is putting in the effort, there should be a way to prove it in a way companies actually respect.
That’s what pushed me to build this.
What it does
Bitora is a virtual work environment for developers.
Instead of learning through tutorials, users work on tasks that simulate real-world development.
They:
receive tasks with deadlines build solutions get reviewed and get feedback
Over time, they build a track record of actual work, not just certificates.
The idea is to make experience something you can build — not something you wait for.
How we built it
I built Bitora using React for the frontend and Node.js for the backend.
I also used AI-assisted tools to move faster and iterate quickly.
AI is used to:
generate tasks evaluate submissions give structured feedback
But the core decisions — how the system works, how users progress, how tasks feel — were all designed manually.
The focus was speed and testing, not over-engineering.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was retention.
Users would join, try one task, then leave.
The issue wasn’t the idea — it was the experience.
At first, the system was too strict. If a user failed, they had to wait too long to retry. That killed motivation.
Another challenge was making it feel real.
Simulating real work is hard. It’s not just about tasks — it’s about pressure, expectations, and unclear requirements.
That’s still something being improved.
Accomplishments that we're proud of Built a working MVP Got early users to try the product Identified real problems from actual usage (not assumptions) Improved the system based on feedback
Most importantly, this isn’t just an idea — it’s something people can actually use.
What we learned
We learned that:
People don’t need more content — they need real practice Small UX decisions can completely affect retention Speed of iteration matters more than perfect code early on
Also:
Building something useful is much harder than building something that looks impressive.
What's next for Bitora Improve task realism and difficulty balancing Make feedback more accurate and trusted Increase retention and user engagement Bring real projects into the platform Eventually connect top users with real job opportunities
The long-term goal is simple:
Make Bitora a place where developers gain real experience before their first job.
