My Journey into IT: From War to Code
What Inspired Me
At 37, I transitioned to IT due to the war in Ukraine. Despite the challenges, I found success in the industry. However, my experience with the full app development lifecycle was limited, so I sought to boost my skills by participating in this project.
What I Learned
I aimed to create a social network that would be scalable yet cost almost nothing to maintain if there were no users. This was a significant challenge, especially since I wasn't initially proficient with DynamoDB or AWS Lambda. However, they seemed like the best options, so I decided to dive in and learn.
How I Built My Project
Balancing this project with my full-time job was demanding, often requiring me to work additional hours after my regular workday. I utilized my existing expertise in Flutter and Go, while pushing myself to master new tools like DynamoDB and Lambda. My focus was on clean code, user-centric design, and cost-effective scalability throughout the development process.
Challenges Faced
Taking on new responsibilities, like UX design and serverless architecture, while managing my coding tasks and full-time job, was challenging. But overcoming these hurdles was incredibly rewarding, allowing me to grow both as a developer and project leader.
Conclusion
This project was a personal milestone in my IT journey, proving that with determination and the right mindset, it's possible to overcome challenges and achieve success, even in the most unexpected circumstances.
