💡 Inspiration

In Africa, sending money is often harder than earning it. Families lose up to 20% of their income to transfer fees, students struggle to receive support from home, and millions remain unbanked, locked out of opportunities by borders and systems.

I built BIT.ER to change that. BIT.ER, Bitcoin Empowerment and Remittance, is a next-generation platform that makes digital finance accessible, secure, and empowering for everyone. It’s not just about sending money; it’s about building trust, literacy, and freedom through technology.

🧠 What It Does

BIT.ER merges decentralized technology with real human needs to create an all-in-one ecosystem for financial empowerment across Africa.

⚙️ Core Features

💼 Wallet Dashboard: Real-time Bitcoin balance, daily transactions, and market trends, all displayed in local currency equivalents for clarity.

⚡ Instant Transfers: Peer-to-peer Bitcoin remittances in seconds, protected by two-factor authentication and encryption by design.

🎓 Learn-to-Earn Academy: Users learn blockchain, saving, and financial literacy, and earn Bitcoin rewards for every completed lesson or quiz.

🤖 AI Assistant: A voice-enabled guide that explains crypto terms, tracks spending, and supports users in their local language.

🌍 P2P Marketplace: Secure trading of Bitcoin, gift cards, and other digital assets, with built-in trust ratings and AI fraud detection.

📜 Transaction History: Transparent logs for every transaction, with color-coded indicators for deposits, withdrawals, and rewards.

🔗 Developer & Partner API Layer: Opens BIT.ER to fintech innovators, enabling integrations across remittance kiosks, local businesses, and banking systems.

🔧 How We Built It

BIT.ER is powered by a multi-layered architecture combining modern technologies for reliability and scalability:

Backend: Node.js + Express

Frontend: React Native (Expo)

Database: PostgreSQL + Prisma ORM

Wallet Service: Rust + Bitcoin Development Kit (BDK)

AI Layer: Gemini API integration for natural language assistance

Infrastructure: Docker Compose for full-stack orchestration

Security: Helmet, CORS, JWT, rate limiting, and encryption by design

We also added complete setup scripts (setup-hackathon.sh & start-all.bat) for instant demo readiness, so anyone can clone, configure, and run BIT.ER in minutes.

🧩 Challenges We Ran Into

Synchronizing Bitcoin wallet transactions with testnet APIs

Managing multiple services across Node.js, Rust, and React Native

Ensuring accessibility for users with low literacy or visual impairments

Keeping everything lightweight enough for a smooth hackathon demo

Every bug we fixed and every API mismatch we solved made the platform stronger and faster, ready for real-world use.

🚀 Accomplishments That We’re Proud Of

Built a fully functional wallet ecosystem with P2P remittance and Learn-to-Earn rewards

Implemented AI-driven financial literacy directly inside the app

Created complete documentation, setup scripts, and demo data for hackathon readiness

Designed with accessibility first, including voice prompts, high contrast mode, and multi-language support

🔮 What’s Next

🌐 Expand support for local African dialects through AI translation

💱 Integrate mobile money bridges for fiat–crypto conversion

🛡️ Launch the BIT.ER Trust Index, an on-chain reputation system for safe community trading

🌍 Partner with schools and fintechs to scale Learn-to-Earn across Africa

BIT.ER is more than a project, it’s the foundation for a movement of financial inclusion.

Built for Africans — by an African who believes in the power of access, education, and resilience.
