Bison-Hacks-2020

Volo bridges the gap between those in need of legal service and those willing to provide it. Allows users to list what legal service they require and instantly access a list of certified lawyers who provide the service for free and are willing to provide it. The application also allows for legal professionals to efficiently advertise to potential pro bono cases.

The needs of our personal family members and communities inspired us to create this app. One of our team members is a medical student at Howard University College of Medicine and has first generation immigrant colleagues from Nigeria and Ghana in need of immigration legal advice. Another team member has an uncle that was unjustly incarcerated due to an adequate lack of legal counseling. Another team member has an immigrant mother that saved up for 5 years to start her American dream of owning a small business hair salon but was unable to afford a lawyer to answer questions on starting a business, tax laws, and employment laws.

We learned how to address the needs of underserved communities through creating an application that would provide solutions in increasing accessible justice.

We faced the challenges of creating a user friendly interface.
