Inspiration

Bird watching is not exactly the most exciting or accessible activity for newcomers - our application seeks to make birding a more inviting experience. Merlin Bird ID and other top birdwatching apps lacks certain fun/useful features: Badges: keep users engaged and makes birding fun Map: provides a visual aid for tracking progress

What it does

BirdQuest is a gamified birding-watching application. With badges to track your birding progress, an interactive map, and a field journal, birding has never been this easy and enjoyable. BirdQuest is perfect for both first-time birders, and those who have been birding for years.

How we built it

BirdQuest was build using HTML, CSS, and React.

Challenges we ran into

Division of Workload: While dividing the work up had its benefits, it also had its fair share of consequences - the primarily difficulties came with maintaining thematic and functional cohesion throughout the project. GitHub Troubles: There were also a few issues in accessing the project’s GitHub repository, but those were eventually resolved.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

1) Work was divided evenly between group members, with each individual assigned to a separate component. This helped ship out the product on time. 2) Our choice to use React and standard HTML made learning the tools much easier, as there were plenty of resources available. 3) Our product management made sure we delivered an MVP a week before the deadline.

What's next for BirdQuest: A Gamified Birding Platform

Create a Mobile App: This would allow users to log their birding activity on the go!

Add a Social Media Feature: Users will be able to share any badges they have earned or birds they have spotted! This would make for a more interactive and community-building experience.
