Whenever I go outside to my backyard I see lots of birds. I know some of them, for example: The Red Cardinal. But sometimes I can't be sure what the bird is. In order to find out what kind it was I would have to research the internet for a long time, but that takes a long time. Introducing Bird ID, all you need is a photo, it will do the rest.
What it does
Bird ID uses machine learning to identify birds. You can use an existing photo or take one live. Then you can see what bird it most likely is and other birds it might be. You can also learn about the bird you identified.
How I built it
I built Bird ID with Xcode and Swift, the machine learning part was made with CreateML.
Challenges I ran into
One challenge I ran into was getting the percentages to work right. The percentages I was given from CreateML were really long. I ended up rounding the number.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I'm proud of implementing machine learning and making an app that could be useful to people in real life.
What I learned
This is my first time making an app that uses CreateML so I learned about implementing that. I also learned about formatting numbers and organizing dictionaries.
What's next for Bird ID
I made Bird ID with the limited amount of data I had. I found everything I could on the web. So far Bird ID can recognize 14 species. If I had more images I could put in a lot more birds.
