Bird Catcher

Inspiration

We like to go hiking together as the group before pandemic. One time, we found a beautiful bird while we were hiking at our favorite trail. I turned over and asked Duy if he knew which kind of bird that we were looking at.

What it does

It would take any bird picture from either photo or camera and classified type of bird and wiki info.

How we built it

First, we get the bird dataset from Kaggle, and train it with ResNet50 and PyTorch framework. Second, for serving purpose, we use react-native for the mobile app & fastapi.

Challenges we ran into

Originally, we planned to use the Oracle Cloud but it is harder than expected (not user friendly)

What's next for Bird Catcher

We plan to extend the app to not only capture the bird but also different objects on the hiking trail. This is great because we can apply this into education where teachers can hold the outdoor activities with students. They can go hiking together and the class can actually capture many objects while they are enjoying the hiking. In addition, we are planning to extend it so that they can share their result or findings with their friends
