Inspiration

During high school, our AP Computer Science teacher not only advocated for teaching us Computer Science, but also supported monthly environmental projects. To continue his goal, we developed this project.

What it does

Our project is a nonprofit startup organization that uses biotechnology in order to find solutions to the biggest issues plaguing our environment. We showcased our research into this subject onto a website.

How we built it

We used ReactJS and NodeJS to create our website and run the server locally on our computer. We wrote the code with HTML and CSS and bootstrap.

Challenges we ran into

One of our team members had trouble with wifi for most of the day and had to use data on zoom call to write the code on the other team member's computer until the wifi came back. We also had trouble setting up our github for this project at the beginning. There were several instances of having to resize or reposition the image and these edits took a lot of time to implement. We have not yet made our website on the web yet and it needs to be fixed for other screen sizes.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of having a front end and backend for this project. We used ReactJS which is a relatively new technology for both of us and we are proud of having completed this website in the 12 hour span.

What we learned

We both learned a lot about react bootstrap. We learned the different components it has and how it can create plugins for our website that make it faster and more pretty. We were not familiar with these technologies before so using it for the first time, we are glad.

What's next for BioLink

In the future, we plan to expand our startup organization and be able to host summit events where we can gather a community passionate about this issue and share our mission of employing biotech to solve our environment's greatest challenges.
