Inspiration
I took inspiration from some existing PartyRock Apps - like AWS certification planner and AWS Certification Exam Practice Tool.
What it does
The user can ask any question related to bioinformatics tools and workflows - it could be about analyzing a specific type of dataset like RNA seq, ChIP seq etc, or ask about tools to convert one file format to another - for example converting Fastq to VCF or Fastq to BAM, and countless other queries. The app will suggest a method (tool, pipeline etc) based on the query. It will provide details about how to use the tool/pipeline - for example input files and their format, output files and their format, is the method currently under development or is it well established and widely used by the community. It will also suggest some reading material - there is no limit on the number of suggestions, because i think more information is better in this scenario. The user should be able to decide what is relevant for them and what can be ignored. There is also a chatbox to answer any further questions the user might have regarding the suggested method.
How we built it
Using PartyRock AI
Challenges we ran into
Did not face many challenges. It was straightforward and easy to develop.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Creating this app - I have been thinking about creating something for the bioinformatics community for a very long time now. This is a start, and that's why its very special. I'll be delighted if this app proves to be useful for someone out there. It will for sure help me :D There is always something new to learn. Its a never ending process!!!
What we learned
Exploring different AI models - I tried all AI models when testing the app. Most of them were not generating the expected output. In my experience, Claude and Claude Instant produced most accurate results. Claude Instant provided similar results when compared to Claude, but with less consumption (1 bar).
What's next for Bioinformatics Method Explorer
The next step would be to make the app aware of common data types and terminology used in bioinformatics. Sometimes the AI can get confused because of common wordings. For example, confusing DNA-seq with ATAC-seq because of the word "seq".
