BioID: Bacteria Database

Inspiration

YCP Hackathon 2017 - BD Challenge!!!!!!!!!!!, shopping websites, and wikipedia.

What it does

It is an exploratory and informational tool focused on bacteria, providing such information as nomenclature, identifying characteristics, medical relevance, history, and visual aids via multiple media types.

How we built it

Lots of brainstorming, sketches, lists, trial & error, revisions, free online website building software, and research.

Challenges we ran into

Not a technical team, lack of knowledge on database implementation, and limited access to software resources to fully implement our design.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Our resulting jury-rigged website prototype!!! It looks good for a rough draft toward something better!

What we learned

Learned about the theory of databases, criteria for the categorization of bacterial organisms, and that time tables never go as planned. That we all can bounce ideas off of each other and work really well together. Hackathons are super fun!

What's next for BioID: Bacteria Database

We will continue to learn and develop our front-end website with a back-end database to implement the functions / features we envision for this application.
