Inspiration
Our inspiration came from Laikipia District a case in point which is an important wildlife refuge outside these protected areas. Continued presence of wild animals in the District is now threatened by changes in land use brought about by demographic changes occasioned by continued influx of population from the high potential areas of Central Province. The incoming population bring with them intensive agricultural land use practices which are incompatible with migratory regimes of the wild animals in the region. The farms are thereby exposed to continuous destruction by elephants and other wild animals.
What it does
Our system uses an arduino microcontroller for the system whose main function is to process data from the sensor and submit them to the cloud and passive infrared sensor to detect heat signatures of the wildlife.
How we built it
We used Node MCU 8266 as the brain of the whole system. We used IR Sensors which as going to scan the temperature. The system uses solar energy to power it.
Challenges we ran into
We run into no challenges, infact it was fun and educative as we made progress in making the system.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Making the system work was an accomplishment to be proud of.
What we learned
We learnt different heat signatures of different animals, we also learnt how to work with Microsoft Azure IoT and finally we learnt to be organized in project planning and time management.
What's next for Biodiversity Tech
We aim to come up with new technologies which are going to not only help our wildlife but also the community at large.
