Inspiration
The inspiration behind BioAlmanac was our concern for the rapidly declining biodiversity and the urgent need for awareness and conservation efforts. We wanted to create a platform that highlights endangered and extinct plants and animals, serving as a comprehensive resource for users to learn about these species and take action to protect them.
What it does
BioAlmanac is a website that provides information about endangered and extinct plants and animals. Users can browse through a diverse collection of species, accessing detailed profiles that include images, descriptions, types, prey, predators, and endangerment status. The website also educates users about the causes of endangerment and extinction, as well as the importance of biodiversity conservation.
How we built it
We built BioAlmanac using the Flask framework for the backend, HTML and CSS for the frontend, and JavaScript to enhance user interactivity. The Flask framework allowed us to handle routing and data processing efficiently. HTML and CSS were used to structure and style the website, ensuring an intuitive and visually appealing user experience. JavaScript was utilized to implement interactive features such as search functionality, card sliders, and dynamic content updates.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of several accomplishments achieved in the development of BioAlmanac. Firstly, we successfully implemented a comprehensive database of endangered and extinct species, ensuring accurate and up-to-date information for users. Additionally, we designed an intuitive and user-friendly interface that promotes easy navigation and engagement.
What we learned
During the development of BioAlmanac, we gained valuable knowledge and skills. We deepened our understanding of web development using Flask, JSON, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, honing our proficiency in these technologies. Additionally, we learned the importance of user-centric design principles, prioritizing intuitive navigation, and a visually appealing interface. Moreover, we developed a deeper appreciation for the significance of biodiversity conservation and the role that technology can play in promoting awareness.
What's next for BioAlmanac
In the future, BioAlmanac plans to enhance user interaction, incorporate multimedia content, and expand the database of species.
