Inspiration

Our aim is to spread awareness regarding conservation of biodiversity , through increased protection for endangered species in different biomes. The game allows free access to learn about our wonderful earth and can be further developed to highlight possible threats affecting local wildlife and thus affecting local communities. Through free use and ease of access , this will allow people from all over the world to learn more about their local environment and how they can safeguard it , through easier identification.

What it does

How we built it

Daniel = Installed Jupyter Notebook and downloaded the dataset required from Kaggle , designed and developed the Threat Identifier.

Yousouf = Created Javascript Game , created sprites and Gameworld scene in Tile Editor

Roinee = Created the React App , followed by GitHub documentation and supervising commits.

Challenges we ran into

Roinee and Yosouf were relatively new to using React for the web application development and JavaScript for game development. We utilised ChatGPT , online tutorials , and help from Daniel, who has a more background in web application and machine learning development.

We ran into issues during the JavaScript game development and passing the test for the Flask connection.

We also had issues with organising the React App for the game.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Managed to create a working demo of the Java script game. The threat identifier passes all tests and returns correct data. React App showcases contributions from all team members and gives a sneak peek to our game.

What's next for Bio-Watch

Increase and improve the threat identifier with more datasets , increase number of possible factors , work with local organisation to promote this app , so that local communities can work with NGOs , charities and authorities . We want to the world to experience the beneficial application of AI easier to use , and how it can benefit future generations . There is a possibility to further expand on its application in policy making and implementation, legislation , and in other industries for prediction , analysis to design sustainable solutions for biodiversity conservation.
