Inspiration
We wanted to create a racing experience where your abilities come from actual biology rather than generic power-ups. A platypus has electroreception, venom spurs, and aquatic mastery that translate into unique tactical advantages.
What it does
Bio-Racers pt. 1 drops you into a relay race as a biomech platypus competing against seven other enhanced animals. Your bat teammate races the first leg, then tags you for the run back through a sealed techno-jungle track. Voice commands let you deploy abilities like Aquatic Burst through flash floods, Electroreception Scan to detect threats, and Burrow Dig through collapsed tunnels. Four high-pressure obstacles demand quick thinking. Finish in the top three teams to advance. Last place triggers autodestruct.
How we built it
Using ElevenLabs voice agents, we created a multi-voice ai agent/story engine that narrates the race dynamically while also voicing the goat commentators that provide stadium energy and your bat teammate that offers encouragement. The voice interface lets players call out abilities and tactical choices naturally while the AI adapts the narrative based on decisions, tracking cooldowns and time pressure throughout.
Challenges we ran into
Balancing biological realism with exciting gameplay. Real platypus abilities like electroreception needed to feel powerful and useful in racing contexts without becoming generic video game powers. Each obstacle had to create situations where platypus-specific adaptations provided genuine advantages.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We created a racing experience where your species matters tactically. The platypus isn't just cosmetic, its actual biological traits determine which strategies work. Players develop appreciation for real adaptations while making split-second survival decisions.
What we learned
Voice-driven competitive scenarios create natural urgency. Speaking your choices aloud while racing against time adds physical tension that button-pressing doesn't capture. The format makes every decision feel more immediate and consequential.
What's next for Bio-Racers pt. 1
Part 1 is the first of four races in the Bio-Racers tournament. Players who survive advance to Part 2, facing new challenges and tougher competition as the field narrows toward the championship.
