Inspiration

One of our team members (Raine) had appendicitis last summer and as a result, had to get an appendectomy. She said that paying her bills and understanding exactly which procedures her medical insurance covered was confusing, and she wanted a better all-in-one platform that takes the hassle out of the already stressful situation of paying hospital bills.

What it does

Billify is an app that simplifies hospital bills. It allows users access to their hospital bill as an itemized list. Within the itemized list, users can see which procedures are covered by insurance and receive reminders on when to pay their bills so they’re paid on time.

How we built it

Billify was designed using Figma, Shell, Firebase, and XCode.

Challenges we ran into

When designing the shell script, cURL, which is used to interact with the database, was being finicky and wouldn't recognize the URL. We also didn't have enough time to make all of the GUIs.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We feel that the user interface is really intuitive and has a simple design that is transparent and visible to its users. It's easy to understand and very usable, even for older individuals who may not be as tech-savvy.

What we learned

Learned how to work in time constraints and use different platforms.

What's next for Billify

Perhaps adding a payment function straight through the app, as that is a feature we wanted to implement but didn't have time to design.
