INSPIRATION
My inspiration comes from the beautiful diversity of Indonesia — its cultures, its people, and its breathtaking natural world. I've been working on the picture book as the author and illustrator. and the book has been published
Indonesia is home to:
- Hundreds of unique tribes
- Rich traditions and languages
- Endemic and endangered species of fauna and flora
- Magical plants like the kantong semar
- Forests, rivers, and ecosystems found nowhere else on Earth
This vast diversity inspired me to create a story that celebrates the wonder, wisdom, and harmony found in the natural world and traditional cultures of my country.
What I Learned
While creating this project, I learned:
- How storytelling can be used to preserve culture
- How to research endemic species and their roles in the ecosystem
- How indigenous values — such as living in harmony with nature — can be woven into narratives for children
- How characters like Bilip, Benkaari, and various animals can help spark curiosity about conservation
- How to use Markdown formatting effectively for clean documentation
- I also gained a deeper understanding of the importance of cultural identity and environmental awareness.
How I Built This Project
I built Cerita Anak Nusantara through these steps: Research I gathered references on Dayak culture, Kalimantan rainforests, pitcher plants, and local folklore.
Character Development
I created characters like: Bilip Sahaya — a cheerful Dayak child Benkaari — a tiny, wise fairy of the pitcher plant Limpasu tree, Tarsius, Proboscis monkey, and other endemic species
Worldbuilding
I designed the setting using real habitats in Borneo — forests, rivers, and flora.
Story Flow
I wrote narrative sequences as subtitles and interactive dialogues to make the story engaging for children.
Each drop 𝛿 in the pitcher plant holds a secret of life.
Challenges I Faced
Some of the biggest challenges included: Ensuring the story remains respectful and accurate to Dayak culture Balancing fantasy elements with real educational content Simplifying complex ecological concepts for children Choosing the right characters to represent Indonesia’s biodiversity Creating a narrative that is both entertaining and meaningful Keeping the message about conservation strong but not overwhelming and the biggest challenge is working with AI, making everythings keep consistent.
Final Message
Indonesia’s forests, cultures, and wildlife are treasures that must be protected. Through Cerita Anak Nusantara, I hope children will learn to appreciate diversity, respect nature, and cherish the wisdom passed down through generations.
