Inspiration
Our inspiration for this project is that we really like to play games, especially ones that involve collecting something, like Subway Surfers, or Temple Run. Using that as a base, we made the same type of game, but modified it to to take place in a city.
What it does
This is a game, centered on a motorcycle collecting coins in downtown Chicago, our urban area. The player has to collect 44 coins, and is being timed. At the end, there is a leaderboard that shows 1st place, so the motive is trying to beat the previous high score.
How we built it
We built this game using an API called GDevelop. We made this from a template, and modified its code to make it more enjoyable, for example, we added time, a leaderboard, a bike, numerous new sprites, etc. The language we used was a type of block code, derived from Java.
Challenges we ran into
A challenge that we ran into was during the design part of the game, when we couldn't make 3D pictures so we had to convert the files to .glb to make it work with GDevelop. Also, we used a new language, so working through that was very difficult.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are very proud of the leaderboard that we added and the game altogether. Another accomplishment that we are proud of would be that we attempted a new language and persevered through it.
What we learned
With this project and GDevelop, we learned to program with a block coded version of Java, which was hard at first, but we got the hang of it at the end.
What's next for Bike Rush - Chicago
To make the game better, we could add some power ups in the game and different levels if time permits. This will improve the game and attract more users to it. Using GDevelop, we could also publish it to the App Store and Google Play Store, attracting many users from around the world to the game.
