Short description

Bihar RiverVerse is a bilingual interactive river atlas and BPSC learning platform that combines maps, river profiles, cinematic journeys, PYQ-based preparation, flood/environment intelligence, offline packs, and a local-first study workspace.

Inspiration

Bihar’s rivers shape geography, agriculture, settlement, disasters, ecology, culture, and BPSC exam preparation, but the learning material is scattered across maps, reports, textbooks, PDFs, and coaching notes. Bihar RiverVerse brings that river knowledge into one structured, explorable, bilingual learning experience.

What it does

Bihar RiverVerse lets learners explore Bihar through its river systems. It includes an interactive basin map, 864-river atlas index, river profiles, bilingual cinematic journeys, BPSC PYQ and practice modes, flood and environment intelligence, wetland and biodiversity context, historical river-course learning, saved revision, progress tracking, notes, offline PWA packs, and an optional Python/SQLite server for accounts, sync, leaderboard, and administration.

How we built it

The project is a web/PWA application using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Leaflet map layers, local browser storage, service-worker caching, and a bundled Python/SQLite server for optional account and sync features. The competition package also includes a static hosted demo adapter so judges can test the main experience directly from a public link.

How OpenAI was used

OpenAI Codex and GPT-5.6 were used as the main development partner to interpret the master product instruction set, consolidate the project into one application, prepare implementation and deployment strategy, debug submission-readiness issues, improve README and judging instructions, create Devpost-ready copy, and package the project for OpenAI Build Week review.

Challenges we ran into

The hardest part was balancing a cinematic learning experience with academic and geographic accuracy. RiverVerse needs to be visually engaging, but it also has to clearly separate verified facts from illustrative learning geometry, exact PYQs from BPSC-style practice, and educational flood scenarios from real flood warnings.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Consolidated atlas, documentary, BPSC, flood, environment, offline, account, and admin features into one application.
  • Included 14 basin modules, an 864-entry river atlas index, 14 tutor modules, 14 cinematic documentaries, exact PYQ handling, and multiple revision/practice flows.
  • Added a local-first study workspace with progress, notes, offline packs, and backup/import.
  • Prepared the project for Devpost with hosted demo support, README, privacy notes, deployment notes, and testing instructions.

What we learned

We learned that an educational map product needs more than attractive visuals: it needs clear source boundaries, careful labeling, and a learning flow that helps users move from exploration to revision. Building Bihar RiverVerse taught us how important it is to separate verified river facts from illustrative geometry, exact PYQs from newly created BPSC-style questions, and educational flood scenarios from real warnings. We also learned how powerful a local-first PWA can be for students in low-bandwidth environments, especially when paired with offline packs, notes, progress tracking, and bilingual learning.

What's next for Bihar RiverVerse

Next steps include deeper official-source verification for every river record, more precise GIS geometry, additional BPSC year/question packs, mobile-first classroom modes, institution dashboards, and a production HTTPS deployment for multi-device sync.
