Briefly describe your project in relation to the challenge prompt.
Many disabled individuals face barriers to creative expression due to traditional art tools' limitations, leading to feelings of isolation and underrepresentation. Without accessible tools, their ability to share personal narratives and develop artistic skills is stifled.
Daily Doodle is a revolutionary app that integrates technology like eye-tracking, voice commands, haptic feedback, and overlay navigation to empower individuals of all abilities to express creativity and connect through art. This allows for individuals who may not have the same physical limitations to have the same tools as everyone else to voice their experiences. Daily Doodle fosters connections by enabling users to share personal narratives and respond to daily prompts related to their identities and experiences, creating a positive feedback loop of inspiration, support, and skill development. This app provides an inclusive platform for all artists to express themselves visually and builds a supportive community where users can continuously develop their artistic abilities. By breaking down these barriers, Daily Doodle empowers disabled individuals to fully engage in creative expression and gain recognition in the digital art world. Through daily prompts, Daily Doodle encourages regular practice and skill development, helping users feel empowered in their unique identities and promoting authenticity in their art.
Describe your main design decisions and how they contribute to your product.
Our user research revealed significant barriers to creative expression for individuals with disabilities, primarily due to the limitations of traditional art tools. This insight guided our design decisions, ensuring the platform is accessible, engaging, and supportive for all users.
Accessibility Guidelines: Adhering to the highest accessibility standards, Daily Doodle follows WCAG AAA criteria. We ensured optimal color contrast ratios, scalable fonts, and customizable interfaces to accommodate users with visual impairments. The app also includes alt text for images and keyboard navigation support.
Eye Detection and Voice Commands: Users with limited mobility often find current tools frustrating. We addressed this by implementing customizable voice commands and precise eye detection technology, allowing users to create art hands-free and enhancing accessibility.
Daily Prompts and Story Sharing: Users feel most connected through storytelling and shared interests. We integrated daily art prompts and narrative-sharing features to encourage regular engagement, skill development, and community interaction.
Community Hubs and Discovery: Categorization and community engagement are crucial for satisfaction. We designed community hubs where users can discover, connect, and collaborate with others who share similar artistic interests, fostering belonging and promoting cross-community interactions.
Positive Feedback Mechanisms: Users prefer positive feedback and are concerned about privacy when sharing art online. We implemented an encouragement-focused reaction system to create a supportive environment, boosting confidence and willingness to share artwork.
Seamless Onboarding: Recognizing hesitation toward new technology, we created a seamless onboarding process that guides users through the app's features, ensuring comfort and confidence from the start.
In conclusion, the design decisions for Daily Doodle are deeply rooted in our user research, prioritizing accessibility, engagement, and community support. By adhering to stringent accessibility guidelines and focusing on the needs of individuals with disabilities, we have created a platform that empowers all users to express their creativity and connect through art.
