Inspiration
We were late up at night thinking of ideas for our project when we decided on the topic of sleep.
What it does
It helps students, and any others really, be able to track their sleep and recommend a healthy sleep schedule
How we built it
We set up a website on repl.it using HTML and CSS then I created a Java file using repl.it as well and linked the website to the run interface on our main website.
Challenges we ran into
We were very inexperienced especially because it is our first hackathon for all of us. Time was also a big issue, but we ended up pulling through and making it through all of our challenges.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
An accomplishment we are all proud of is that we even finished, and we think that the overall product looks great.
What we learned
We learned that even in tough situation we can pull through.
What's next for Big Peachy Pandas' Sleep Evaluator
We believe that this could have future applications because this software can be used on any device and even on a Neuralink when that comes out. We believe that we can update our website and code in the future to provide a more personalized and fun experience for all.
Description
According to a recent National Sleep Foundation poll more than 87 percent of high school students in the United States get far less than the recommended 8 to 10 hours, and the amount of time they sleep continues to decrease, which is a major threat to the health and well-being of the teenage mind. As students juggle classes, homework, extracurriculars, routine responsibilities, and the subsequent stress, especially in such unpredictable times, there is one thing that is of utmost importance - having a proper amount of sleep. That’s why we, the Big Peachy Pandas - Luis Rivera, Anika Jain, Mariana Gonzalez, and Ramya Madugula - have coded and created a Student Sleep Evaluator! It is an effective and easy-to-use tool that allows the user to self-evaluate the amount of sleep they get per night, and whether or not it is enough. This efficient software has the power of changing someone’s day, one hour of sleep at a time.
