Inspiration
College campuses are full of spontaneous moments – free food, pop-up events, club socials – but most of them spread through word of mouth or get buried in group chats. We wanted a way to surface what’s happening right now around you. That’s where Pull Up came from: a simple, location-based platform to help students discover events in real time and actually show up.
What it does
Pull Up is a campus-focused web app that lets users discover and share live events on an interactive map. Users can:
- Sign up and log in securely
- Create posts for events happening on campus (like free food, socials, or pop-ups)
- View events pinned to a map in real time
- Quickly see what’s happening nearby and decide where to go
The goal is to reduce friction between hearing about an event and pulling up.
How we built it
We built Pull Up as a full-stack web app with:
- A Vite + React frontend with TypeScript and TailwindCSS for a fast, responsive UI
- Google Maps API to display live, location-based event markers
- Supabase for authentication, database storage, and backend logic
- A clean data model to store users, events, and locations
- A polished UI focused on clarity and speed
Everything was designed to be lightweight, intuitive, and hackathon-friendly.
Challenges we ran into
- Narrowing down our idea early on instead of over-optimizing for tracks
- Designing a database schema that worked cleanly with location data
- Handling authentication flows under time pressure
- Making sure map interactions stayed smooth and readable as events updated
- Balancing feature scope with polish in a limited time frame
Accomplishments that we’re proud of
- Pivoting our ideation process quickly and decisively
- Shipping a working, end-to-end product with auth, posts, and maps
- Building a clean and intuitive UI under hackathon constraints
- Delivering a project that feels genuinely useful on a college campus
What we learned
- Integrated Google Maps and Supabase APIs to access live locations and store user data
- Implemented full user authentication and event posting for a robust backend
- Iterated on UI details to polish the final experience
What’s next for Pull Up
- Implement upvotes or engagement signals to surface popular events
- Improve moderation and reporting tools
- Expand beyond a single campus
