As a team of Undergraduate business scholars, we see the great potential of the Business school. With top tier faculty, excellent programs, and an abundance of resources supporting entrepreneurship and leadership, it's unfortunate to see that most of our peers are not aware of the opportunity sitting so close to them.
Project BIBS: Building futures, strengthening connections is set out to increase the rate of undergraduate applications into the business school, as well as take advantage of recent opportunities in the greater Brandeis campus like professional certifications that both undergraduates and graduates can take advantage of to kickstart their careers.
The way we set our to build this project was by analyzing what the business school was already doing, and where the business school wanted to be. From this analysis, we found gaps in the recruitment strategies used by the admissions team, as well as gaps in the professional development of BIBS students.
Facing such a broad problem that could be solved in a myriad of ways, we thought of other ways to approach the solution, such as a COOP program, ways to link BIBS back to campus more, and even new programs. However, we decided that instead of solving by adding potential solutions, we could tackle this challenge by altering the current approaches.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Our Greatest Accomplishment that we're proud of is choosing a solution that the administrators at BIBS can implement immediately, with little to no barriers for implementation. In addition, taking advantage of the recent changes of leadership happening at Brandies by proposing early drafts of a certificate curriculum provides a tangible example of how this solution can be implemented.
What we learned
We learned that even when there is great value in a product, marketing and outreach get you the results that you need. Especially in cases such as graduate school enrollment, it can be very difficult to persuade students into enrollment without making it feel like you're just selling them another few years of tuition. In order to do so, you must be ready to provide educational value outside of cost-of-attendance metrics typically used by universities.
What's next?
The next stages for our project requires us to directly cooperate with the Brandeis International Business School administration to see the value of our solutions as well as their potential impact. As a team of undergraduate and graduate students passionate about making BIBS accessible and exciting for anyone, we're excited to make BIBS an even stronger beacon of the Brandeis Community.
