Inspiration

I was inspired by a fully illustrated bible stories book when I was a kid. Even as an adult, I still can see those vivid illustrations that depicted various bible scenes. I took up VR development and learned 3D modeling in order to create a VR world where I could explore bible scenes. Creating a Horizon World for Noah's Ark allowed me to reach a mass audience who could become familiar with Bible Scenes VR brand.

What it does

Let's you explore a 50% scale version of Noah's ark If AI is enabled, you can converse with an AI version of Noah himself! Even without AI, Noah is pre-scripted to help players with items and quests in the ark 10+ quests to complete while exploring the ark Allows you to explore in VR, on mobile, or via the Web

How we built it

I used Horizon Worlds Desktop Editor to development the game logic, and even used Horizon's GenAI system to write some code, create models and textures. Additionally, I used Blender for some model cleanup and creation, as well as Meshy.ai for a few more complex models.

Challenges we ran into

Two challanges come to mind: 1) Learning Horizon Desktop Editor. I am a Unity/C# developer, so learning typescript and the Horizon API was a challange. Thankfully, the documentation was good and GenAI helped point me in the right direction. 2) Performance - When I first starting testing the game, very early on, I realized how limiting the models in a Horizon World was. I had to really learn the debugging and perfomance tools to fix several issues along the way.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The biggest accomplishment is getting this game out into the wild. Having people, especially kids and young adults, experience Noah's ark in VR is an amazing win. As far as the game itself, having an AI version of Noah himself to talk to is incredible. I have spent way too much time talking to Noah, very long conversations with him, and it starts to feel like it's really him!

What we learned

Learning how to put together a Horizon world was an interesting experience. I actually didn't use Horizon Worlds too much, but when I realized how easy Meta has made it to create worlds, I figured I had to try! Learning how to use AI to help with code and model generation was a game changer for me as well.

What's next for Bible Scenes - Noah's Ark Lite

Bible Scenes VR development is almost complete! Bible Scenes VR is the full VR game that will be available for Quest 2/3/3S sometime winter 2025. It's a project I started almost 2 years ago, and I am finally close to a product that I am proud enough to release on the app store!

Bible Scenes VR will feature a FULL scale model of Noah's ark that can be explored, along with Points of Interest that give fun facts about the ark, as well as asking thought provoking questions about things like 'What was life like in the ark?'.
